There's a lot of on-line chatter about which place makes the best bagel. In New York City, I waited in a line that stretched out the front door for what was supposedly a great bagel. When I unwrapped my purchase and took a bite I declared it "a good bagel" but no better than any other freshly made bagel I've had from purveyors of such. Barton's Bagels also makes good, fresh bagels, a fact I was reminded of on a recent visit. I arrived when the line was short and quick moving but while I sat enjoying mine (salt bagel, lightly toasted, lox shmear) the line grew so long that I was glad I'd arrived when I did. It was finals week and all the nearby high schoolers - apparently - come here when they're finished. Barton's Bagels stands the test of time. My sons are long out of high school but they continue to make a stop here when in town. It's nothing fancy but the prices are right and you know what? They make a darned good bagel.

In town for a few days and needed a quick morning breakfast, this hit the spot! I would recommend double toasted bagels but we tried the onion bagel, salt bagel and cinnamon sugar bagel. Well worth the stop!
